AFCON 2025: 529 Security Interventions, 202 People Face Justice

A joint statement from the Ministry of Justice, the Public Prosecution Office, and the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) specified that 307 of the interventions consisted of identity checks, immediately coordinated with the competent judicial authorities.

Furthermore, 68 attempts at unauthorized access, 17 cases of counterfeit tickets, 16 drug‑related incidents, and 20 cases of possession of fireworks were recorded. In addition, five bladed weapons and two tear‑gas sprays were seized.

As part of proactive security operations, 396 individuals suspected of illegal ticket resale were apprehended, thanks to monitoring social networks as well as technical and on‑site investigations.

Moreover, the statement noted that during the tournament period, judicial offices registered the appearance of 202 individuals across various stadium offices. Of these, Moroccans represented 79.2%, while foreigners —of diverse African and European nationalities— accounted for 20.8%.

The most common offenses involved fraudulent entry into stadiums (25.48%), illegal ticket resale (10.96%), and unauthorized access to restricted stadium areas (7.46%).

As part of close tripartite institutional coordination involving the Ministry of Justice, the Public Prosecution Office, and the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), the statement noted that nine judicial offices were established in anticipation of the practical challenges posed by the unique nature of AFCON 2025. These offices, responsible for handling repressive cases, operated within the stadiums hosting competitions across six cities: Rabat, Casablanca, Marrakech, Agadir, Fes, and Tangier.

These offices played a central role in the immediate judicial handling of offenses, in line with legal requirements, while ensuring a balance between deterrence imperatives and the protection of rights and freedoms.
